It’s official, we now have a new family member MAKAI.  Eric and I have been planning and dreaming of this boat since we returned from cruising Mexico in 2000, and as of this morning it’s official.

Makai is a Leopard 47 catamaran.  For several years now Eric has been researching cruising catamarans and decided this would be a perfect boat for us.  Then we got a phone call from sailing friends that we met when preparing for our Mexico trip back in the late 1990′s.  They just bought a Leopard 47, wanted our family to visit them in the British Virgin Islands, and we accepted wistfully wishing we could make the same trip happen for our family.  The Pimentel family sailed through the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas for 2 years, we followed their blog, emailed, visited, and still hoped for such a boat for ourselves.  Then last summer Rodney emailed us and said they were finished with the boat and were going to sell it.  After a very short conversation Eric and I decided to buy it.  December 2011 Eric crewed for Rodney sailing the boat from the Canary Islands to Grenada, then they put it in a shipyard and secured it for the year, and this weekend we completed the purchase.

So, it’s official, we have a new boat.

There’s also the last minute cleaning, packing, moving, painting, and planning.

It’s so exciting, I could bust!
