Trek to Wheeler

We spent an entire day traveling to the Wheeler Geologic Area.  In 1908 the property became Colorado’s first National Monument, but in 1950 it was decided that the property was too remote and the property was transferred to the forest service.  For years we’ve heard about Grandma Beth’s mother visiting Wheeler on horseback with her pals, and about 15 years ago Beth, Eric and Julia took the Jeeps while Mac, Jackie, Major and Teak hiked.  The trip was uneventful, but when we arrived at Wheeler a hail storm drove us out.
