Vole

Have you ever seen Caddyshack?  I can’t exactly remember what it was about, but I do remember the battle between Bill Murray and the gopher on the golf course.  Last fall my neighbors were asking me if I saw the vole yet, but there was no sign of him.  Then sometime around January we started getting little piles of dirt here and there in our tiny 9 foot square patch of grass. Topaz would dig to China trying to find it, what a mess!

So we started with traps.  First Eric made a special cover he found on the internet and set traps on either end. When that didn’t work, we went to another style that you set in the voles main runway.  Next, we decided to gas it with carbon monoxide from the car.  Then my brother advised me to try  smoke bombs also placed in the main runway, that was pretty fun, but the moles still won.

Supreme Court weighed in, rejecting Burbank’s proposal, the residents have not sale generic tadalafil given up and continue to combat the judgement. All this required digging down to the horizontal corridor the vole uses to get around.  I would be out there digging in the middle of the night, first thing in the morning while wearing a night gown, after breakfast, and anytime I saw a new hole.  Eventually the lawn was just a big dirt pit, so I leveled it off and put down some sod.

After a few weeks of the smoke bombs, the dirt piles really slowed down, and with the new sod, I could just peel it back, dig my hole, set the smoke bomb and put it back together in about 15 minutes.  Next we tried a solar charged repelling system.  I think it actually attracted the vole because now the dirt piles were right around the post of this new device.  This week, about 5 months after we started the battle, I actually saw his little head as he was pushing dirt out of his hole.  So, I went back to smoke bombs and also added in some poison pellets that I spoon into the runway before I set the bomb and return the dirt to the hole.  I’m also sprinkling grass seed as I go in hopes to maintain a lawn.

The little guy is so cute, but the piles of dirt and Topaz digging at the hole, just creates a big mess.  I’m sure I’m not going to win this battle, but I’ll try to keep the grass for the kids and dog as long as I can.
